Principal
After an extensive career as a professional dancer, model, and choreographer, both in the UK and abroad, I found my true vocation as a dance teacher.
I am dedicated and totally committed to LAMATA and the development of our students. I enjoy seeing them grow in confidence and technical ability, and like to nurture their creative side and individuality. I am proud of all their achievements.
We have a strong bond here at LAMATA, where our students develop friendships, trust, respect for each other and a strong sense of community.
I am determined to keep it that way!
VICKI DOWNS
Dance Teacher
I trained with Miss Aveine for nine years, during which time I was a JA of the Royal Ballet school; gained a bbo dance scholarship; and a placement at Laine Theatre Arts, where I completed my teaching qualifications.
I performed in various professional pantomimes and summer seasons, and was selected to duet with Wayne Sleep, in his UK tour. Following on from that I danced for the 80's band Five Star.
I spent the next seven years travelling all around the world as Lead Dance Captain with Carnival Cruise Lines, inaugurating the biggest cruise ship in the world at that time! I then decided to move back home to get married and start a family, and I am now lucky enough to teach at LAMATA.
NICKY PETRE
Dance Teacher
I have a long association with LAMATA, as I did my initial dance training as a young child with former IDTA examiner Miss Sharon Harrison. I graduated from Merseyside Dance and Drama centre with distinction and ISTD associates in Ballet, Tap, Modern, National and Disco. From there I embarked upon a career as a professional dancer . I was lucky to be able to experience many different cultures abroad, and a variety of roles including choreographer. I also toured the UK with Daren Day in Viva Broardway and Paul Daniels Musical Magic.
I have since focused on a teaching career and taught at SLP college in both the junior department and the vocational college. I was head of Modern Theatre at Lynton Academy for seven years before joining the team here at LAMATA
SOPHIE BUTTERWORTH
Dance Teacher
Looking for a great motivational Dance Teacher who really knows how to get you moving?
For many years, Sophie Butterworth has been an influential part of our LAMATA family, providing students with the personalized attention they need to fulfill their dance goals. Sophie completed her dance training here at LAMATA, and despite a varied career path, we can't keep her away. Sophie is our nursery specialist, with a wealth of experience working with pre school children, and is conversant with all aspects of child safeguarding. She is a well respected member of the team by both parents and the senior students who love her dynamic and varied routiens.
When not here at LAMATA Sophie has an interesting career working with the police department and is currently making exciting plans for her wedding in July 2021.
OUR STORY
Lamata is a long established, and well respected training academy within the UK.
Our instructors are totally committed to the teaching and wellbeing of our LAMATA dance family.
We have an abundance of talented, hard working, fun loving students who are the heart of LAMATA.
We currently follow the bbodance examination syllabus in all genres, however our teachers have a vast and varied experience of other dance associations.
Miss Aveine, trained with the British Ballet Organisation, and, at college, studied RAD and ISTD . She held a BTDA general teachers certificate, and holds a teaching certificate with Acrobatic Arts, and a Teaching certificate in Further Education. She is currently an examiner with bbodance, and the advisor on their modern syllabus. However, her favourite classes to teach are Ballet !
Miss Vicki was initially trained with The British Ballet Organisation, and at college studied and gained teaching associate certificates with the ISTD. She has completed her bbodance teaching qualifications. She is our Musical Theatre specialist- and heads our festival work.
Miss Nicki initially trained with LAMATA teacher Sharon Bell, studying the IDTA syllabus. Whilst at dance college, she went on to gain her teaching associates with the ISTD which includes Disco. She teaches varied subjects here at LAMATA, but her favourite genre is Tap.
Miss Sophie has been trained at LAMATA, where she has gained her examinations in British Ballet Organisation up to advanced level- She holds an Acrobatic Arts teaching certificate .She has studied many diverse genres- including belly dancing! Her passion is commercial dance.
Miss Tasha, has trained at LAMATA with bbo dance and is currently studying full time at college for a dance degree. Her passion is for teaching and choreography.

INTRODUCTORY DANCE
On Your Feet
Led by a dedicated team of instructors, this class will have you on your feet in no time. Many of our dancers love taking this class, as it gives them the opportunity to learn new movements and easily showcase their talent. Interested in learning more? JUNIOR DANCE
Get Up & Move
. Everyone loves the opportunity to explore the new dance moves taught in these classes, while also mastering the classic moves. Our amazing instructors make sure everyone gets individual attention while keeping the class collaborative.
We have fun and laughter in a community , family atmosphere.
Dance friends are friends for life!
Classes include Ballet ;Tap; Modern; Commercial; Drama and Musical theatre.
INTERMEDIATE DANCE
Get Up & Move
Our main focus is in the development of both professional and personal skills. We aim to promote each student's individuality and independence to enable them to progress with the self confidence needed in their life choices, whether it is the theatrical profession or any other.
We have guest specialist teachers that we are able to call on for extra guidence and tuition
ADVANCED DANCE
Let’s Do It
We offer a comprehensive Dance training program for students wishing to enter the theatrical profession, alongside a flexible, fun program for students wishing to enhance their personal and social skills. Our teachers are committed to giving each student attention while also moving the class forward. We’re happy to answer any questions you have - simply contact us or stop by.

Our students have had places at The Royal Ballet School; British ballet scholarship;. Jazz scholarships; Laine Theatre Arts; London Studio centre; Italia Conti Academy: Central Ballet School; Arts Educational College: Northern Ballet School. The Hammond School; Elmhurst.
Many have gone on to work professionally : London's West End, T.V.
Cruising; Ballet companies; Teaching at home and abroad.

OUR STUDENTS
Get Up & Move
Our students describe LAMATA as their second family. They range in age from 3 to 18, and many form life-long friendships. The school is full of fun, laughter, compassion, hard work and loyalty. Older students look out for the younger ones, and are always willing to help out wherever they can.
